What is Bridge Care?

Sometimes a birth parent or adoptive parents may need a bit more time to decide about whether adoption is the right choice. Who cares for the baby during this time? Adoptions of Wisconsin offers our experienced and licensed bridge care family to care for the baby until placement is decided, ensuring the baby has a safe home, while allowing birth parents and adoptive parents to visit and bond with the baby.

James and Deniece have cared for over 40 infants in need of bridge care in Dane County since 2009. They are open to communicating with birth parents and prospective adoptive families about their home, daily life, and care of children, so all parties can feel comfortable about their decision to utilize bridge care as part of their adoption plan.

They have two adult children and are both retired, allowing them to have the flexibility to care for infants in need of temporary placements. They enjoy traveling, caring for their pets, and spending time outdoors in their free time.

“We are immensely grateful to James and Deniece for their loving care of our son, Jude, during the transition period before he came home with us. For about one week, they provided a safe and warm environment that made it possible for Jude’s birth mother to say goodbye to him in a loving setting. Their kindness and support during this momentous occasion meant so much to us. We are very thankful for everything they did for Jude and for us.”
