Home Study Only

If you are pursuing an adoption through a national agency, or an agency in another state, Adoptions of Wisconsin can conduct your Wisconsin home study.  A home study covers subjects such as family history, health, employment history, background checks and placement considerations.  During your home study your social worker will assist and support you in exploring issues you may wish to consider regarding adoption.

All required paperwork and background checks must be completed and returned to Adoptions of Wisconsin before starting the home study. A home study consists of at least three visits with your social worker. If you live within a two-hour radius of Madison all three visits will be in your home. If you live two hours outside of Madison, at least two visits will be in your home and the third will be in our office. The social worker is not looking for perfection; but rather to see that your home is a comfortable, safe and healthy environment for a child. If your social worker notices something of concern and feels the situation can be remedied, you will be made aware and given time to make the necessary changes or adjustments.

Post-Placement

If the child you welcomed to your home through adoption was born in another state, Adoptions of Wisconsin, Inc. can perform the necessary post placement services and complete all needed reports.

If you work with us for your home study, you will also work with us for your post placement. This portion of the adoption process consists of short, intermittent visits conducted by your social worker after the child is placed with you. Post placement visits are meant to serve as “check-ins” to see how you and your child are adjusting.

The number of post placement visits and length of post placement contact is set by the state in which the child was born.  Typically a face-to-face visit is required once per month.  Some states require a visit every other month.  If the adoption is finalized in another state, Adoptions of Wisconsin, Inc. still has to follow Wisconsin law and conduct an in-person post placement visit every month until finalization.

Adoptions of Wisconsin, Inc. is also happy to provide post placement services and reports for children born outside of the United States. Such services are often required in connection with their immigration filings and family petitions (I-130).
